DD says: "Between the time that Dell/Delacorte dropped the Young Wizards books and Harcourt picked them up for Jane Yolen's Magic Carpet imprint, this was the only US edition of the book (which was published in paperback the year before by Transworld/Corgi in the UK). The SF Book Club partnered with Guild America Books to bring out this hardcover, which has a jacket painting by the gifted SF and fantasy artist David Cherry (whom I requested: he's also, as it happens, brother to the well known SF and fantasy writer C. J. Cherryh)."
